So, feeling inspired today!  I just arrived in New York City, and I can't think of a better excuse to keep the new resolution of blogging at least once a week.

One stop that I NEED to make while I'm here is Mood fabrics (yes, the same one from Project Runway).  About six months ago I purchased a vintage Chanel jacket, it was not in very good shape. There were no buttons and the lining was pretty thin (I did not know how bad the lining was) but the integrity of the jacket was intact.  So my labor of love began...  First and foremost,  I brought it to the dry cleaners and a week later, I was very pleasantly surprised to find out it was a beautiful shade of coral, rather than the dismal shade of orange I thought it was!  After looking for several weeks, I was able to find 27 matching Chanel buttons (half of which are sewn on).  Now the final step is to find the perfect coral silk fabric for the lining.  Then, off to the tailor for repair.  Once the jacket is done it will be a certainly be a conversation piece!

I forgot how much I love the city, just finished a walk down Madison Ave.  It was extremely difficult not to start shopping!  However, I have a full weekend here and I promised my partner in crime that I would wait for her.  We are both in need of retail therapy and a few cocktails.

Alright, so we were told that we could wear color to work (normally, we wear black and white) for a few choice days on a weekend. But the catch is that we needed to go through this color book and determine whether we wear pastels or jewel tones, in cool or warm shades.  I'm not too sure that a book with generic questions based on hair color, skin tone, eye color (all of which are changeable) and how you respond to different pictures based on the colors within that picture, will determine what colors look best on you!  That being said, when I was in high school (I was very blond and very tan, not going to apologize that was the trend) I had my colors done, by a professional not a book and I was told I warm.  Now, that I'm a brunette and rather pale, I can not even pick up a peach or a yellow in any shade to wear.  So, yes I am a bit skeptical about wearing color based on what a book tells me.

I think that a person should wear colors that make them happy and feel good.  If you want to try a dress or shirt in a new color or shade, ask a sales associate (the good ones will tell you the truth about how the color looks, however there are some that can't tell the difference or are more interested in making the sale) in that case, go with your gut, does the color wash you out or are you concerned because you have never seen yourself in that color?  If you're in doubt and need another opinion, send a photo to a friend, I'm sure you can take a selfie!   A good friend will be honest about how a color looks on you.

Today,  I will leave you with a sentiment that I heard during an interview with the genius, Karl Lagerfeld when he was interviewed regarding the Chanel Fall 2014 fashion show, "fashion is to be part of daily life."  Well said!

So, I started thinking about those dresses on the sale racks, February is a great month for a steal!  Ever see what seems like a great dress, it has a good pattern or color and wonder, why is it still here? Do you get a bit excited because you think you found the best deal in the store?  So you grab it quickly and bring it into the fitting room.  You get it on then say to yourself, now I know why it is on the sale rack, it fits horribly!

Let me tell you, pick up that dress that has ruching through the waist, you will probably be pleasantly surprised (it will hide more than you think).  What about the one that looks like a sack on the hanger, don't be afraid to add a belt even if it is not sold with one!  Clothing that does not hang well on the rack or hanger is often very flattering on!  Stores do not have enough mannequins to display everything, also don't be afraid to ask the sales associates if they have seen the clothing on anyone else.

Add some statement earrings or a bold necklace for a new outfit that someone else was afraid to pick off the rack because it did not look appealing on the hanger!

Today will be the first official post for Style for Pittsburgh, the blog itself is still under construction, but I wanted to start posting!

Today (or any day) is a great reason to put on that pair of shoes or that fun dress, that when you were at the store you said to the sales associate "I have no place to wear it."  I love to tell women for the right shoes, you'll find the right place to wear them!  Even if it is just out to a dinner or for drinks
with no one special.  Let those shoes make you the special one, I bet you feel like a million dollars!
